The humidity was very hot and sticky yet many of the Korean team wore jackets to increase the difficulty.

Club master meets old friends in Korea
Club instructor Master Chris Davies met up with with some old friends in Korea he has not seen for 10 years.  Brigadier General Lee Sung Woo treated Master Davies to a truely fantastic evening with traditional food at the Korean Air Force club in Seoul Korea on 12 July 2011.  Master Davies helped Gen Lee and his family set up a Taekwondo school when they were stationed in Swindon.  It was an evening of renewing and cementing old friendships and making new ones. In true impeccable form as only General Lee can; he arranged for all the notice boards to display 'Welcome Chris Davies', even on a flashing notice board.

Aaron Cook Quits the GB Academy.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/taekwondo/13831576.stm

This has been expected for some time as a number of high performance coaches in the UK have mentioned that the training Aaron was receiving at the academy had changed and was not conducive to his fighting style or performance. We have also heard rumours for quite some time about levels of discontent withing the Academy. For Aaron to sacrifice his funding and to have to find his own funding as an Olympic athlete suggests the issues he had within the academy and its training are very serious.

Competition at Keynsham Leisure Centre
The British Taekwondo Alliance Southern 1-2-1 Championships held on on 23rd January 2011 in Bristol went very well with clubs coming from all areas of the country and was well attended by groups from the UKTDC, BTA independents and the BTCB bringing a number of talented players.  The competition was run under the WTF rules with electronic judging and scoring systems and comprised of sparring which was held on 2 matted rings, whilst a 3rd area operated a Patterns competition.

Bristol Taekwondo player and a 2010 World Champion Nick Wilson, showed his form and went on to win all of his matches against some quality opponents, other junior players from Longwell Green Taekwondo school also did well in their matches.

Congratulations to everyone and a big thankyou for all those that helped with organising and judging

Testimonials

Just wanted to say well done for today.
All the kids enjoyed their fights and as usual we met some really good friends both old and new. Thanks for making the effort, I know sometimes it might seem like a thankless task so here's an official thanks from us.

Thank you for letting us compete in your competition today - both of my fighters really enjoyed themselves and, at the end of the day, for me, that is a good an indicator you can get of having had a good tournament.

Firstly thank you for inviting our team and congratulations on running a successful, open and impartial competition. It was a great opportunity for my students and I’m sure all the other competitors also to get back into the game post Christmas. Not to mention the fact it was also one of the few politically free Taekwondo competitions affording Teams like ours a chance to get quality ring time and tournament experience here in the UK

On behalf of my small club here in the depths of Devon Thank you for an excellent day, We all really enjoyed the experience. And my very inexperienced team gained a great deal.
